Unfortunately, there have been some really drastic examples of racism in history. Here are a few of some of the worst examples of racism in our world.
This is one term that everyone should be familiar with. Slavery is defined as a system under which people are treated as property and are forced to work. Slaves can be held against their will (whether they were captured, purchased or just born) and deprived of the right to leave, to refuse to work, or to demand compensation.
Slavery has existed since even before written records and been present in a lot of different cultures. Since slavery isn’t allowed in the United States and most of the Western world, you might think it’s completely gone. We wish we could say that’s true, but it’s not. There are still millions of slaves in the world, mostly debt slaves in South Africa.
One kind of slavery that is horrifyingly still around today is human trafficking, which is the illegal trade of human beings for the purpose of reproductive slavery, commercial sex exploitation and forced labor. You’ve probably heard this kind of slavery also being referred to as sex trafficking.
Slavery is a disgusting process that we wish wasn’t still going on in the world — in fact, we wish it had never started!
