Let’s get into a little bit of history first… Racism can be traced back to the 14th century in the Middle East and North Africa. Prejudice developed among Arabs because of things like the slave trade, the influence of Aristotelian ideas regarding slavery, and the influence of Judeo-Christian ideas regarding humans.
Africans weren’t always considered inferior, though. In the 15th and 16th centuries, when the Portuguese sailors first explored Africa, they considered the people to be serious rivals in terms of advanced cities. However, over time African civilizations did not advance as much as the rest of Europe. That was when European people began taking Africans as slave laborers. One thing is for sure: slavery was around for a very long time before it was abolished.
