How Do I Know If My Sweetie Is Cheating?

Don't stress about this situation.

Hi Heather,

How will I know if my boyfriend is being faithful?

I wish I could tell you there is a definite way to know if your sweetie is cheating on you, but unfortunately there isn’t. I could tell you a list of things to watch out for, but it’s so easy to misunderstand any of those signs. Be a little cautious, but remember not to go overboard — obsessing over this kind of thing isn’t good for any relationship.

If you truly think your sweetie might be cheating, you need to be honest and talk to him. Some people get mad when asked straight up if they’re being unfaithful, but it’s really important to always talk about your feelings in a relationship. If your BF says he’s not cheating, then it’s up to you whether you believe him or not. You can look out for all the cheating ‘signs’ you want, but that doesn’t always lead to the truth.

The main thing to remember is that if your gut is telling you not to trust your sweetie, you probably shouldn’t. Relationships are built on trust, and if you have no faith in your sweetie, that isn’t a good sign, and it will only lead to a lot of fighting and sucky emotions in the future.

WDYT, gURLs? Have you ever been cheated on? How did you know it was happening? What do you think gURLs should watch out for? Give us your advice and discuss below!

take care,

My boyfriend and I had been dating for a little over a month and one night I was at a concert and he was invited to a party. Without knowing, the house party he went to had free alcohol for anyone who was there. My boyfriend drank a little too much and he put his arm around a girl and since she didn’t know he was in a relationship she started to get kind of sexual with him. He put his hand up her skirt and felt her up, but he realized what he was doing and immediately left the party. He called me at 3 AM when I got home and told me he had to tell me something the next day. When he came over he sat on my bed and started to cry and explain what happened. I wasn’t mad at him because of how honest he was admitting right away to his mistake. He spoke to the girl on Facebook and apologized for his behavior that night, then he deleted her (most likely to make me feel better).

I don’t believe in the saying “once a cheater, always a cheater” because it’s not true! My boyfriend hasn’t cheated on me since and we’ve been dating for a year and a half. Overcoming something like that so early in our relationship brought us closer together because we really trusted each other. Even though I wish it never happened, we moved on from it and we’ve been very happy together!

Have faith in your sweetie and listen to your gut! 🙂
