Amber Heard Might Have a gURLfriend, But She Doesn’t Want To Be Called a Lesbian. WDYT About Labels?

This is one gURL who totally hates labels.

We  were so excited when we heard that Amber Heard came out of the closet three years ago and announced she was dating photographer Tasya Van Ree. But just because she has a serious gURLfriend doesn’t mean Amber wants to be labeled as anything, whether it’s bisexual, lesbian, or straight. And why should she be?

The actress recently did an interview with Playboy, where she said, “First of all, to say I came out implies that I was once in. Let me be straight about that – no pun intended [laughs] – I never came out from anywhere. I’ve always lived my life the way I’ve wanted and have been honest with myself and everyone around me.”

She goes on to say the only thing that bothered her about coming out was the media attention: “For someone like me who prefers to keep her life as private as possible, it has been disconcerting to have to define so much about myself. I don’t want to be labeled as one thing or another. In the past I’ve had successful relationships with men, and now I’m in this successful relationship with a woman. When it comes to love, I am totally open. And I don’t want to be put into a category, as in ‘I’m this’ or ‘I’m that’.”

We love Amber’s message — everyone should be free to be who they want without having a label attached. WDYT, gURLs? Do you agree? Are you into labels or do you wish people didn’t use them? Do you think dating another gURL makes you a lesbian? Discuss below!

I Think Labels Are Only Nessacary,If You Certainly Know Your Sexuality. I Don’t Think You Can, Or You Should Put A Label On Someone If They’re Just Experimenting. I Dated A Girl Last Year, and Hated It. My Boyfriend Says I’m Les, And That’s Not True Because I Love Guys. I’m Not Attracted To Girls, I Just Think Everything About Women Are Beautiful. If It Makes Me Bi Cause I’ll Say A Girl is Hot, Or Maybe Her Boobs Look Awesome, She Should Be Proud: Then Call Me Bi. I Don’t Care Cause I Know The Truth.

Well, no, I don’t think it makes you a lesbian; it makes you either pansexual, bisexual or lesbian. To me, she sounds like she’s pansexual, but I can’t judge her, you know?

    labels are totally overrated!

  • hey.

I can relate with her so much, that’s how i feel about my sexuality also. I love how she’s not letting the media get to her. She sounds like a great role model. You go, gurl! 🙂

  • Brooke

Accually I love her attitude. In a world of labels and names we need some freedom! I agree no labels be who you want go with it!

  • Taylor

Beautifully said girl! Or should I say gurl. 😀

She’s a genius! I love the whole she didn’t come out because she was never hiding, I like it! Plus the part her being ‘Totally Open’ now I know how to define myself…Genius. I agree with everything this gURL says.
