Lady Gaga... um, we mean Jo Calderone
We’ve seen Lady Gaga show up on the red carpet in an egg, cover herself in fake blood, and wear actual red meat, but maybe one of her most talked-about performances yet was at this year’s MTV VMAs, where she showed up dressed as (and performed as) a man.
Gaga spent the entire night dressed as ‘Jo Calderone’, her straight male alter-ego, whom she also dressed as for a recent Vogue Japan photo spread. And in typical Gaga fashion, she even said a few crazy things — including talking about Britney Spears and saying, “I used to hang posters of her on my wall and touch myself.”
She won a Moon Man for Best Female Video, and during her acceptance speech, she said, ”I feel so blessed to be here, and it’s true. It doesn’t matter who you are. Gay, straight, bi, lesbian, transgender – you were born this way. God bless you.” We definitely LOVE that statement.

Im not lesbian, but I do think Lady GaGa looked hot as a guy LMAO (x It was also entertaining to see her do this, she always surprises us with new things.

I love Gaga. I think dressing up as a guy after Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry were dressing up in ‘gaga style’ was awesom’ being like her is becoming a trend and just when they thought they got it down she totally switches it up. She’s odd, but I’ve never seen a talented person who wasn’t. Whether she’s Stefani Lady gaga or Jo I am in love. She’s talented, beautiful, and innovative.
Oddly, I thought it was inspiring. It was almost like you saw a part of Gaga you hadn’t before. Even though she was dressed up as a man, everything she said felt so real and genuine. She is a performer, all day, everyday. I just wish just once we would see her, not the performer. But, nevertheless, I was still moved by it. She is a beautiful person who gives people the confidence to be who they are.
I thought it was definitely something Lady GaGa would do. And I loved it. She played the part well and did what she wanted to do. Shock everyone there and show them something they weren’t expecting. And I would do all the things with Jo. :3
I loved all of it but when she tried to kiss brittany spears i all most threw up BAD LADY GAGA!!!!! lol but other that that everything was funny especialy when she said that she used to hang posters up of brittany spears and touch herself WTF!!!!??? but that was funny:)
I thought it was awesome, there were so many other women there dressed to be (somewhat) Gaga like. And yet she shows up as…him. *stands up and applauds* I think she is awesome and I absolutely, ADORED her acceptance speech. It felt so good to hear those genuine words direct from her heart, there are so many people that don’t recognize Bi, but I guess because she is she understands. Anyway, I think she is an inspiration, I love her.
i love lady gaga, but i wasn’t really sure what she was trying to do when i watched the vma’s. at first, i just assumed that she was trying to show her diversity as a performer. then she just started embarrassing herself. the choreography was pretty good, but that was when she was actually doing what you could tell was a planned part of the routine. other than that, it was just really strange. it could’ve been really cool, but she took it too far. i like the concept of the alter ego, but the alter ego gaga chose was just psychotic and a little too crude for my taste. i’m not a prude, and i expect that kind of behavior at mtv events, but not to that extreme.

However when she tried to kiss Britney, that was hilarious in a bad way, lol. Like seriously, be ORIGINAL Gaga. Just like Britney said, she’s already done that before with Madonna.

I didn’t watch the VMA’s, but as I flipped through channels I caught her a minute and really thought she was Billy Joe Armstrong ’til I saw the hair and stuff, then i thought she was some new male singer…but dear gosh, it’s her. She pulled that off too well
Really weird, and not in a good way. Yeah it’s cool she’s unique and doesn’t care and all that, but it just came off as her having serious schizophrenia problems. She didn’t even stick to her character nor was really believable, which I would expect for her growing up in theater. I also didn’t like how she kinda had to steal Britney Spears’ moment when it was HER tribute! Why couldn’t she let her talk! And her talking about touching herself, then five minutes later she is thanking God? I love Lady Gaga’s stance on LGBTQ equal rights, but other than that, it’s really just sad how much young people idolize this attention-needing singer.
Lady Gaga used to be cool and original (think back to Just Dance and Poker Face), but now she’s just plain weird. And I actually felt a little embarrassed for her after her performance of You and I… did you notice how she tripped after jumping off the piano? And then the camera suddenly swooped over to the guy on guitar. Maybe that was a good thing, although it would have been funnier to watch her fall down.
