It’s been almost 10 years since 9/11 happened, and even though most of you gURLs were young when it happened, we know each and every one of you has a unique story about that day (Feel free to post ‘em below.). In honoring September 11th, MTV and Figment.com have teamed up to create a writing contest that gives teens a chance to get published. If you love to write and you think you’re pretty freakin’ awesome at it, then you need to enter.
Their goal is to encourage teens to look at the world from a new perspective by having them write about characters they might not be familiar with. In order to qualify, you need to pick at least one character and setting recommended by others on Figment.com and write a 1,000 word story about confronting intolerance (meaning, something or someone you’re unwilling to endure).
Not only will three winners be published on MTV Act, but they’ll also receive an iPad. It’s a great way to get both your work and your name out there.
If you’re interested in entering, head over Figment.com and register for the site starting September 1. Once your story goes up, readers of Figment will vote on it, and the top 10 stories will then be cut down to three by celebrity judges.
Will you be entering? What’s your 9/11 story or story about confronting intolerance? Discuss below.
