In the latest issue of Self magazine, Jennifer Hudson talks about her recent weight loss, and sends kind of a weird message out to gURLs.
She reveals that when she first got to Hollywood, she thought she was the “perfect size”… until a reporter asked her what it was like to be plus-sized. She says, “I looked around, like, Who is she talking to? Oh, me? I’m plus-sized? In the neighborhood I’m from in Chicago, a (size) 16 is normal. But in Hollywood, everyone looks exactly the same, so I stood out.”
Jennifer has lost over 80 pounds and dropped from a size 16 to a size 6. In the interview, she adds, “I’m prouder of my weight loss than my Oscar!”
We’re happy that Jennifer feels so great in her own skin, but should her dramatic weight loss really be considered her biggest accomplishment? Winning an Oscar is a prestigious award that many actors try for years and years to get. We kind of feel like Jennifer is saying she’s happier about being skinny than being talented, and we’re not sure how we feel about that.
WDYT, gURLs? Should weight loss be considered your biggest accomplishment? Is it really that important to be skinny? Have you ever experienced a dramatic weight loss likeJennifer has? Discuss below!

Can You Trust Him?
Hey, give me the Oscar then.
i dont see a problem with it. have ANY of you tried to lose weight? yeah its pretty DAMN HARD. some women struggle to lose 10lbs rather than 80lbs! and losing body fat and getting that great flat stomach that some of you just have naturally, yeah its not so easy for some of us. singing comes natural for her its her natural born talent, so of course its not gonna be hard. what if someone gave you an oscar for talking or laughing? yeah its easy they can throw oscars at you all day for that! but weight loss is REAL thing and its REALLY challenging. so before you go say that she shouldn’t say this maybe you should re-evaluate and think about how hard it is for some women in this society.
If she feels proud, good for her. But why should I care? She’s always been pretty, a good singer, kind…
I think that everyone is different and if she thinks that is her biggest accomplishment than it is but the biggest accomplishment is loving yourself and if she accomplish that by losing weight than that a enormous accomplishment!
I think that there was NOTHING in that article about health…obviously the girl was healthy, or else she would’ve told us so. I think it’s kind of stupid that she thinks that weight is more important than her LIFE. 16 is perfectly healthy and beautiful. She made herself change because some stupid, biased reporter told her she was plus sized. She changed because she didn’t look like anyone else. Is that really how all you gURLs wanna live? Do you want to have to change yourself and think of how you look more important than what you DO with your life? That’s so sad. I pity you all.
i 2nd the motion
I think it’s completely reasonable for her to say that, because her weight was slowly effecting her health, and she would rather be healthy than talented. She is a woman who has her priorities strait!
Bianca’s right, she could be concerned about her health which is why she feels the weight loss was more of an accomplishment than the Oscar. Then again, she may have felt pressured into losing weight because of what the reporter said about her being a plus size. Only she knows the real reason as to why she feels the weight loss is a bigger accomplishment than an Oscar.
I mean a size 16 is a healthy size its not thin but its a good weight. I think its a great accomplishment to lose weight but you should care more about your talents and be proud of getting recognized for them than conforming to society’s beauty standards

I think she is saying she feels better about losing weight for her health more than an award. Not everyone has the same priorities in life where awards mean more than health.
