Gently pull your outer labia open, and you’ll see your labia minora, the soft, hairless flaps of the skin directly surrounding the vaginal opening. Everyone has a different size, length and color, and not everyone’s inner or outer labia are symmetrical. The minora is quite sensitive, and with sexual stimulation they swell and turn darker if your skin is light-colored.
Those inner lips join to form a soft fold of skin, the clitoral hood that covers your clitoris.
The labia minora also helps keep bacteria away from the vestibule (the area between the urinary opening and the vaginal opening).
