Any time I go on a date I get really bad gas! I was at the cinema last weekend with a boy I like and cringed when he bought me a coke as I know the fizz makes it worse. But he was being polite. It has happened a number of times in the past and although I know the boys can’t hear when it happens I am still very self-conscious about it, HELP!
While getting gas can be totally cringe-worthy, it’s a normal thing that happens to everyone. Still, I know that it can be pretty embarrassing sometimes, especially when you’re trying to make a good impression. On the bright side, there are some easy ways to prevent it.
Gas is created in the stomach, and comes out through burping or farting. There are some foods that are way more likely to cause gas, such as beans, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bananas, eggs, cabbage, dairy products and onions. Carbonated beverages like soda or beer are also really big contributors. The next time you go out, try to stay away from these foods throughout the day — especially the soda, since you know it’s a trigger — and drink plenty of water.
If you feel a little gassy before going out, drink peppermint or green tea to soothe your stomach. If it’s really bothering you, try an over-the-counter medication, such as Mylanta or Gas-X. Your nerves can also stress your stomach out, so try to keep yourself relaxed.
And if you’re in another situation where a crush buys you a soda (and you’re too self-conscious about turning it down), you can always politely take it and just not drink it. Easy, right?
