I’m Not Ready To Grow Up

She's in no rush to get older.

Dear Heather,
I’m 13 and I’m gonna be 14 soon but sometimes I feel I just wanna be a kid not a “teen”. Is it wrong?

What you’re feeling is is totally normal because change is scary — especially in your teens. Growing up and maturing is never an easy thing to go through, and you’re completely allowed to feel that way.

|Whether it’s family issues, body issues or problems with your sweetie, you can talk about anything in our Shout Out Boards.|

A lot of gURLs feel like once they hit their teen years, they need to start acting like adults right away. Really, there’s no reason to rush the process. While you do start having more responsibilities now that you’re older (like taking school a lot more seriously), it’s totally natural and acceptable to still want to feel like a kid. After all, you have your whole life to act like an adult.

As fun as being a kid is, keep in mind that growing up can be pretty great also. As you get older, you’ll have a lot more freedom to do the things that you want. Not only will you be able to make your own decisions, but you’ll get to do a lot of other fun and silly stuff, like watching R-rated movies or getting a later curfew. It may seem overwhelming, but take it one day at a time and just let things happen in a way that feels natural for you.

WDYT, gURLs? Do you ever get scared of growing up? Do you still act like a little kid sometimes? Share your stories and advice below.

take care,

heather

I wish I felt this way when I was 13. When I was 13 I was desperate to grow up, and had no interest in ‘childish’ things.

Well, I had a taste of being an adult, and it didn’t agree with me. I’m 17 and really don’t want to grow up, either.

Enjoy being a kid when you can. I’m soaking up all of the childhood I have left, because it won’t last long.

That’s how felt about two months ago. I turned fourteen. I want to be thirteen or twelve but those years were wasted.

I’ll be turning 19 in early August…I wish I could still be 15 or younger because it still seems young and cute. Personally, I wasn’t completely innocent in those early teen years, but I still had a childlike feel. Everything turns gross around 15 or 16. Now I’m just lost.

Don’t worry, its fine, just understand that no matter how old you get, you can still always have fun with friends, cry over a sad story, take a bubble bath, or just roll in the grass! for my 13th birthday, i had a kiddies party, with a jumping castle and a candyfloss machine, and EVERYTHING a five year old could wish for! :) don’t worry, just try take it as it comes… :)
    lotsa luvvies
