Panic Attacks

Freaking out? Anxiety and panic attacks are really common! A panic attack is a brief but intense episode of anxiety or fear. A panic attack lasts typically about half an hour, reaching a peak about fifteen minutes into the attack, but can last longer. A panic attack is a very scary thing, especially because the person experiencing one might be convinced they are dying, most often they think they are having a heart attack. They can occur in individuals who already suffer from generalized anxiety disorders, but not necessarily so.

So what qualifies as a panic attack?

    Bad advice. Don’t speak “steadily,” like a psychologist, speak caringly, like a friend or boyfriend. REASSURE them that they are not dying, (IF they think dying is a bad thing), but don’t belittle them, like, “You’re fine, don’t worry.” No, say, “Shhh, it’s okay…”…
