Remember when Katy Perry‘s mom said she was disappointed in her? As it turns out, she wasn’t exactly mother of the century. Katy’s finally speaking out against her and admits that she “had no childhood.”
Katy told Vanity Fair that her mom never read her any books except for the Bible, didn’t allow her to listen to secular music, and that she was forbidden to use the word “devil” — not even when talking about deviled eggs or Dirt Devils.
As for sex ed? Forget about it. The “E.T.” singer had to go to Planned Parenthood just to learn about safe sex, “Growing up, seeing Planned Parenthood, it was considered like the abortion clinic…I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there…I didn’t know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn’t have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control.”
Does hearing about Katy’s past make you respect her more? Was your childhood anything like hers? Share your stores and thoughts in the comments.
