Androgynous Celebs

Dot Jones

The word 'androgyny' has its roots in 'andro' meaning 'dude' and 'gyn' meaning 'gURL.' Put 'em together and whaddya get? One scorching hot trend of gURLs in boys' clothes and guys rocking guyliner. Or sometimes, like in the case of Glee's new football coach Shannon Beiste, aka Dot Jones, androgyny is synonymous with gender bending -- you know -- it's when you look at a person and ask yourself, "is that a guy or a gURL?"And maybe it's just us, but we find the suspense of it all kind of exciting and cool!

Lady Gaga

Suiting up for Japan's Vogue Homme, Gaga takes on the role of 'Jo Calderone' in Fall's fab menswear trends -- intended for men.

James Franco

The actor/artist/writer/stoner just opened his first gallery showing in NYC, which "addresses boyhood and the 'sexual confusion' of adolescence." So the 32-year-old is still a confused kid? Glad we're not the only ones.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen's squarish jawline and incessantly furrowed brow make her one where boyishness seems easy. It was her androgynous look (and penchant for going braless) that helped her nab the coveted role of Joan in The Runaways, after all.

Justin Bieber

It's not just that lesbians look like Justin Bieber -- it's that Biebs actually looks like a lesbian. Blame it on the hair, his soft, pre-pubescent features, cute long lashes and baby-like skin, or whatever makes him soft and gURLy, but he's as androgynous as they come.

Elly Jackson

Recently modeling in Viktor & Rolf's menswear show, rocker Elly of La Roux has admitted to WWD, "I love suits. I wouldn't feel comfortable in girls' clothes."

Bill Kaulitz

Bill of Tokio Hotel has outwardly confessed that his favorite eyeliner is Maybelline and has been refused entrance to the men's bathroom for his gURLy appearance. He's welcome in our gURLs' room any day!

Pink

In music and fashion, gender androgyny is the new Pink. Or is Pink the new gender androgyny? She's got the voice of the diva and a rock-hard bod that reminds us far more of our Ken dolls than our Barbies.

Jared Leto

Not exactly known for his politeness, Jared sarcastically responded to a reporter at the '07 VMAs about his memory of the first time he wore makeup. "I put lipstick on when I was about 4 or 5 and I found my inner self. I'm working on a boob job. I have to go to Tijuana in about a month to cut the rest off." OK, so he took it a little far and got a little defensive. But we wouldn't stop loving him even if he did take that TJ trip.

Samantha Ronson

It's not just that she dresses like a boy, but it's that Samantha could really truly pull off being an awkward, 9th grade music band nerd. Instead, she's almost 33 years old and has an incredible career as a world-famous DJ and is one of the coolest chicks in the biz.

Zac Efron

Zac's High School Musical character, Troy Bolton, mixes the rugged with athleticism in manliness perfection. But when he puts on a bit of makeup, that to-die-for six-pack disappears and his seriously gURLy hair becomes prettily prominent.

Adam Lambert

Not since David Bowie has guyliner been so cool, and we have Adam to thank for that. Androgyny is Adam's thing, and we like it. "It's been a while since a very visible male performer has publicly experimented with androgyny. It's just not current anymore. I'm trying to make it current again. I've always been attracted to that," Adam told Xtra.
