i’m almost 15. when should i make my first gynecologist appointment?

Question: I’m 14 years old. I’ll be 15 in a few months. I’ve never been to a gynecologist, and I’m nervous. When do you think I should go? I’m not sexually active, and I don’t think anything is wrong, but when is a good time to go?

Help Me Heather’s Answer: You’re asking at just the right time! The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that girls have their first visit to a gynecologist between the ages of 13 and 15. Keep in mind, though, your first visit to the gynecologist does not have to involve a physical exam, unless you are sexually active or experiencing symptoms of some kind.

Youre supposed to go when you turn 18 or a year after youre sexually active

I went for my first time a few months ago. I've been sexually active for over a year now, but I always put it off until I wanted to get on birth control. It wasn't nearly as bad as everyone says it is… people should really shut the hell up. The anticipation/horror stories make it way worse than it actually is.

I went when I was 14. This was the age that I became sexually active. So in my opinion, you should go when you become sexually active, then have regular visits. When you become sexually active, I would reccomend getting birth control and the HPV shot Gardasil that protects against Cervical Cancer. This can be discussed with your doctor.

I remember my first trip, it was very WEIRD
but it's something you have to do. Every girl has to have it done, you're not alone hunny =D & it goes by very quick *and i recommend as soon as a girl becomes sexually active they should go in for a nice little visit or once a girl starts her period. but hey, im not an expert. but i guess CLOSE ENOUGH =D

well, i went to them for the first time earlier this year. im fifteen. and for the mother issues, remind her that geinocologists arent just for after you've had sex, they check to make sure you youre 100% healthy. you can not have sex and still have something happen down there.

Thank you for this. I'm impatient to go get my first trip to the gyno because I think it's important that I'm healthy. My mom says I don't need to go until I'm 18 or sexually active, but I've already had my period for almost three years and I will probably be having some kind of sex soon. I always heard between 13 and 15 but I need to get that through my mother's overprotective head.
